Shin Level 2 Akuma

Shin Level 2 Akuma (by Failure)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U3BSBUGC

Character Description: A sorta demon-possesed character from the Street Fighter universe, Akuma (also known as Gouki) is usually a boss character. He has similar moves and stats to Ryu and Ken, though he is still middle of the road. In the SF universe, "Shin Akuma" is Akuma at his full strength; regular Akuma voluntarily holds back his power in order to avoid wiping out everyone instantly. This "Shin Level 2" Akuma is from the flash animation MK vs. SF 3, by Proxicide (look for it on Newgrounds). He is powerful, but a work in process that might never be finished.

Stratagies: For the love of whatever diety you worship, learn how to use his super moves! Although his AI doesn't reflect this, Akuma's attacks are kinda hit-or-miss, and sorta slow. His super moves are quite powerful, especially his ultimate move, Shun Goku Satsu. It can easily knock an enemy's health down to zero in no time flat. Also learn how to use his teleportation ability, as it can be the difference between a win or a loss.

While Fighting: Play defensivly, and don't do anything stupid. Akuma can launch some nasty combos at you that can leave your character in dire straits. Although it might be tempting, don't try to kick him or whatever when he's jumping towards you; he can block the attack, land, and attack in the space of a few milliseconds. Just keep blocking, or dodge roll, or something.

Special Abilities: Teleportation

Glitches: Probably my most glitchy character uploaded so far. When playing in debug mode, expect to see the occasional warning text. This doesn't seem to have much effect on gameplay, so you could probably live with it. Also, sometimes if you attack him at the same time he activates one of his supers (a triple uppercut thing), he seems to try to block and teleport at the same time, thus canceling the super move (but at the same time not taking any damage from your attack).

AI: Tough. The AI is able to fight much more effectively than many players, and it can launch rapid-fire attacks that should hardly be possible. For example, Akuma grabs and throws you backwards. He then does an uppercut so quickly that he hits you while you are still flying from being thrown! 3/3.

Cheapness: Actually, Akuma is quite cheap, especially with a full power meter. One of his favorite combos is to trap you in a corner, use his triple uppercut attack, followed by a regular Shoryuken-like uppercut, then kicking you while you lie on the ground, knocking you up high enough for him to use a sort of mega-hadouken, which delivers around 8 hits, then uppercutting you again. While this doesn't happen often, similar moments like these can make you want to scream. 7/10

Extra Notes: Akuma has at least one special move that his AI never uses. Experiment a bit to find them.

Bottom Line: Your call.

Yuri

CvS Yuri (by pji111)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OPO5XDJ4
Character Description: A karate girl from the Art of Fighting and King of Fighters series, Yuri is a decent fighter whose moves parody many moves from Street Fighter (including Ryu's Shin Shoryuken and Akuma's Shun Goku Satsu). Her AI can prove challenging.

Stratagies: Yuri's standard attacks are fairly weak, though her specials - especially the higher-level ones - are quite powerful. Try to launch quick attacks using her dashes and dodge rolls to get behind the enemy. If you get right up in an enemy's face, Yuri uses a slightly different attack than normal that pushes the enemy back just enough to still be in range of that button's normal attack. Use this on aggressive enemies that try to get in close. If possible, raise her special meter as high as you can before launching special attacks; her higher-level moves are essentially super-powered versions of her lower-level ones.

While Fighting: Be very careful around her when she has a full special meter. Any one of her special attacks at that point can do considerable damage. Don't try to block when Yuri imitates Akuma's Shun Goku Satsu; it won't work. Just do your best to evade the attack. Other than that, you can fight Yuri anyway you want.

Special Abilities: Power Charge, Dodge Roll

Glitches: There is one glitch that I've noticed. Sometimes, when using Yuri's Shun Goku Satsu-like move to defeat an enemy, the enemy remains standing but is caught in some sort of spinning loop. Since it is still counted as a victory, it has no real effect on gameplay.

AI: Not the best in the world, but she can hold her own against many characters. Probably a 2/3.

Cheapness: Very little. 1/10.
Extra Notes: Yuri's power charge is very slow. Use only when the enemy is knocked down, andthe rest of the time rely on her attacks to fill out your power meter.

Bottom Line: Get it.

Site Update!

Alright, I went ahead and added some important information to the site.

  • I have re-installed WinRAR and it seems to be working. Sorry about the delay, school has been kinda hectic lately. New characters should be posted by Monday or so.
  • I have added a new section to my reviews: Extra Notes. Basically, anything about a character that doesn't fall under strategy or cheapness or whatever will go here.
  • I have added a link to the FAQ with the other important links on the top of the page.
  • Depending on how well the new WinRAR works, I might take down the "Downloading more than one file" post.

That's all for now. Au revoir!
